Engagement Models

Flexible ways to work together, wherever you're starting from

Every engagement is scoped to the work, not squeezed into a fixed package. Here's how we typically structure things — and how to figure out which fits.

Discovery & Advisory

A focused engagement to assess your current systems, identify risk, and produce a clear technical roadmap — often the first step before a larger build.

2–4 weeksFixed fee

Ideal for

  • You're not sure what needs to be built yet
  • Evaluating a vendor or legacy system before committing further
  • Need an independent technical opinion before a board or ownership decision

Project-Based (Fixed Scope)

A defined set of deliverables against a fixed timeline and budget — the right fit when the scope is well understood, like building a new platform or migrating a system.

2–6 months, typicallyFixed bid or milestone-based

Ideal for

  • A clearly scoped build, like a new ticketing platform or data pipeline
  • You need budget certainty before starting
  • A hard deadline, like a season or event start date

Staff Augmentation

PlayVision engineers, analysts, or designers embed directly into your team, working your processes and tools to fill a capability or capacity gap.

3+ months, ongoingMonthly, per seat

Ideal for

  • You have the roadmap but need more hands to execute it
  • Filling a specialized skill gap (e.g. sports data engineering) your team doesn't have in-house
  • Scaling a team up or down around seasonal workload

Retainer / Ongoing Partnership

A standing monthly engagement for continuous support, gameday on-call coverage, and iterative feature work — the model most of our longest client relationships run on.

Ongoing, month-to-month or annualMonthly retainer

Ideal for

  • Systems already in production that need ongoing care
  • Gameday or event-day on-call support
  • A backlog of smaller improvements without a single large project
Not sure which fits?

Most engagements start with a conversation, not a contract

Tell us what you're trying to accomplish and where you're starting from — we'll recommend the model that fits, and we're always upfront if a smaller engagement is the right call before a bigger one.
